“The Brutalist took me a year and a half of kind of mad, intense work basically. But then sometimes I work with improvisation where you can just do something for maybe like 40 minutes with someone and that's finished, it's happened. It's done.”

Mixing the relentless pounding of the theme with the delicate intimacy of the piano, the composition Daniel Blumberg composed forThe Brutalist has its own vertiginous architecture. It climbs the heights of lonlieness, climaxes with the explosion of a train crash and finds tenderness with love re-discovered in heroine and handjobs (that’s the title of two songs).

Daniel generously reveals his cabinet of curiosities, an enlightening selection of inspirations and favourite things at the end of the interview.

We are excited to explore more of Daniel’s artistic practice in our next edition FORM.
